Panama’s Ambassador to Chile Highlights Grupo Hijuelas’ Potential to Drive Agricultural Development Across the Region

The Ambassador of Panama to Chile, Enrique Jiménez, visited Grupo Hijuelas’ facilities, where he was welcomed by Gaspar and Juan Ignacio Goycoolea, Chairman and CEO, respectively. During the visit, the ambassador toured the company’s operations and learned about its work with a range of fruit and ornamental species, as well as its focus on international markets.

During the visit, the diplomat learned about the processes implemented by Grupo Hijuelas across its laboratory, rooting, and plant production facilities, while also gaining insight into the technological and genetic development the company has advanced in Chile over the years and is now expanding globally.

The ambassador particularly highlighted the opportunity to learn from Grupo Hijuelas’ accumulated experience and the potential to apply this expertise in Panama, both from a technological and genetic perspective.

“The knowledge and expertise I have seen here could provide a highly suitable platform for development that could be implemented in Panama, both from a technological and a genetic standpoint,” he said.

A Look at Production and International Markets

For the ambassador, one of the main attractions lies in exploring how the knowledge and expertise developed in Chile could contribute to the growth of Panama’s agricultural production, particularly in light of the opportunities offered by international trade.

Jiménez also highlighted Grupo Hijuelas’ international experience and the potential for this knowledge to be shared and eventually adapted to Panama’s production conditions.

“I am very impressed by what Grupo Hijuelas is doing. I have had the privilege of visiting the company, and the technology, genetics, and global development they are achieving are truly remarkable,” he said.

Chilean Expertise with Global Potential

The visit also provided an opportunity to showcase Grupo Hijuelas’ development model, based on the incorporation of technology and genetics into plant production and the expansion of its capabilities across international markets.

In this context, the Panamanian ambassador highlighted the value Chilean expertise can offer to countries seeking to strengthen their agricultural capabilities and develop competitive production aimed at international trade.

“I feel that, in some way, the experience and knowledge that the group has developed here could be implemented to help achieve significant agricultural production in Panama,” Jiménez said.

For Grupo Hijuelas, the meeting also represents an opportunity to continue sharing its experience and capabilities with international stakeholders interested in developing agriculture that is more technologically advanced, competitive, and connected to global markets.
