As part of its ongoing mission to advance agriculture as a global agricultural development platform, Chilean holding Grupo Hijuelas has joined Green Motion Avocados, an international community of leading companies and key players in the avocado sector. This alliance aims to accelerate genetic and technological innovation in avocado cultivation worldwide.

Green Motion Avocados was founded in 2020 by the Spanish company Eurosemillas, in collaboration with the University of California, Riverside (UCR), an institution with more than 70 years of experience in avocado research. Today, the platform brings together 20 member companies across 13 countries, including the United States, Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Spain, Portugal, South Africa, India, China, and Australia, among others.

The initiative that Grupo Hijuelas now joins focuses on improving avocado varieties and rootstocks, adapting them to diverse soil types and geographic conditions, increasing resistance to diseases and pests, and optimizing water-use efficiency. In addition, it seeks to develop smaller tree architectures that enable denser, more productive planting systems.

“The incorporation of Grupo Hijuelas into Green Motion Avocados represents a significant step forward in international collaboration for the advancement of the avocado industry, enabling the exchange of knowledge and innovative technologies that benefit both producers and consumers globally,” said Juan Ignacio Goycoolea, CEO of Grupo Hijuelas. He will participate this Thursday, November 21, in the Global Avocado Summit, where he will present the scope of this alliance alongside José María Fontán, Director of Innovation at Eurosemillas.
